A personalised gift

A toiletry or makeup bag or even a pencil case - personalised for a friend having a special birthday...
...and so the idea developed as I had a packet of "Miracle Fabric Sheets" which are pre-treated fabric sheets (for printing on) which are attached to backing paper so they'll go through the printer...
...With an Inkjet Printer, a photo can then be printed onto the fabric. Take off the backing paper, iron and it's on permanently, is soft and doesn't alter the feel or weight of the fabric unlike a transfer that sits on top of the fabric. So then it was just a matter of choosing some fabrics for the back and lining.

I got some medium weight clear vinyl which I cut to the same size as my two outer pieces (the fabric with the photo printed on, and the green gingham). The two pieces of vinyl were to sit over the outer fabric pieces and be used as one (together) so that the outside of the pouch would have some protection and could be wiped down and perhaps be a bit waterproof. I lay all the pieces down to make a decision on where to place the different fabrics ...
...and then it was a matter of attaching the zip (using a special Teflon presser foot so that the machine would sew faultlessly over the vinyl) to the two outer "right side" pieces and then turning over and attaching and following my instructions as it can get a bit confusing otherwise!
The last step is to have the right sides facing each other on the inside and to stitch the whole way round leaving only a gap on the lining to turn it through.

Before turning. Gap is at top of lining
After turning
And the last step is to stuff the lining inside!
 Happy birthday Katrina!
